How To Streach that Dollar

Walgreens had several deals last week that offered Register Rewards. A Register Reward is a coupon that is printed out by a Catalina Machine which is by the Register. It is an offer by the manufacture, when you buy a certain quantity or dollar amount of X brand you will receive a coupon for a specified dollar amount on a future purchase.

I want to show you how to get the most product for the least out of pocket expense.

Here is a list of 4 product that were on sale that offered Register Rewards;

Glucerna Products.
Buy 2, get $2.50 RR
Buy 3, get $4.50 RRs
Buy 4, get $7 RR

Huggies
Spend 25.00, get $10.00 RR

Coke Products
Buy 4-12packs, get $3 RR

Advil PM
Buy 1 box, get $2 RR

If you bought all of these in on transaction you would have spent $67.74 out of pocket and received $22.00 in Register Rewards.

If you bought all these in one transaction with manufacture coupons you would have spent $34.54 and received $22.00 in Register Rewards.

There is another way to purchase these items and only spend $13.33 out of pocket and have $2.00 RR to spend. It is called rolling your Register Rewards. It is where you keep using the manufactures coupon or money to give you buying power to buy more products and get more Register Rewards.

I will post how later today how I got the above items
4 boxes of Glucerna cereal, 3 packages of Huggies Diapers, 4-12 packs of coke and 1 box of Advil pm , plus 1 packages of facial tissue, 3 packages of Orbit gum and 2 candy bars for $13.99 and $2.00 in RR for later use.

If you go to Target.com , go to the bottom of the page and click on grocery coupons you will find grocery coupons, select. choose your coupons and print. You can use these in addition to you manufacture coupons for greater savings.

If you want to save ink and paper, you can print these coupons right at the store. Go to customer service to where you can find the registery computer. Choose shop on line, you then will be directed to Target.com . Agian scroll down to the bottom of the page and select grocery coupons, select your coupons and print. There is no limit on the amount of Target coupons you print.

Motts applesauce is $1.67, target has a coupon $1.00 off which make it .67
Motts has a manufacture coupon for .55 off 1 add that to your target coupon which makes it  .12
you can print 2 manufacture coupon for each computer you have.

The broccoli and cauliflower were on sale 2 for 3.00. Target had a coupon for 1.00 off of 1

I have been doing a lot of shopping at Walgreens the last couple of weeks so I thought I would share some of the lingo of the Walgreens world.

IVC - is for Instant Value Coupon or a 7 day coupon, it is the coupons you find in their
weekly add and are good for only the 7 days of the sale. This can be used in conjution with a ES coupon and a manufactures coupon

ESR - is the Easy Saver Catolog is a booklet found at the front of the store with the sales adds.
Inside are many Walgreen coupons that can be combined with the IVC and manufacture coupons.
There are a list of items that Walgreens will give you all or some reimbursement as well. This EasySaver Catalog is good for the entire month. Make sure you chekc the dates because they run from Sunday to Saturday, so if the month ends on a Thrusday the catalog will run until Saturday.

The new catalog will start a couple of days prior to the old one ending. Sometimes you can douple dip and get rebates both months.

If you choose to have your rebate sent on a Walgreens gift card you will receive an additional 10%.

Register Rewards - These are coupons usually issued by a manufacture that is printed out of a machine next the the cash register. It is a dollar amount off of your next purchase.
Example if you buy a certain item, certian amount or certian sollar amount then you will recieve a RegisterReward.
The key to using these are not to purchae more of the same item and pay with that companies register reward. If you do you will not recieve another one. If you do multiple transactions in one order you will only recieve a Register Reward for one.

Walgreens Perscritptions Savings Card - This is a card you purchase to get a discount on your perscritptions and 10 % back on any Walgreens band items.
This deal was done about 3 weeks ago, but I wanted to post it to show how to save without manufactures coupons.

Walgreens had their brand of baby wipes on Sale for 6.00 a package. In the sales add there was a 3.00 off of 1 package coupon. (That is referred to as an IVC or instant value coupon)
I also have a Walgreens Percritions Savings Card which gives me 10% back on all my Walgreens purchases. Total cost for each package;
Sale Price 6.00
Less IVC -3.00
less 10% - .60

Total cost 2.40

I bought 18 packages, total after coupon and discount was 43.20
However I had money on gift cards from rebates so my total OOP (out of pocket) was 32.50.
That makes my cost per package 1.95 each! That is less then the price of a 64 count tub of wipes.

Headed Across The Sea

I already had a stockpile of toothpaste so I sent this stash of toothpaste to a local church who sends care packages every month to our troops in Afghanistan.

I "buy" a lot of free items such as shampoo, lotions, toothpaste, deodorant, pain medication, vitamins, baby wipes and makeup, keep some for my stockpile and then donate the rest to the local Senior center, woman's shelter, the local church who ships the care packages, Samaritans purse, and a local mission.

Being able to give so much to the organizations makes getting all this stuff for free even more fun!

Streching A Dollar

About a year ago I decided to get serous about saving money. The year before my family of 3 had spent over $18000.00 on groceries , household items, and pet food. Once I had tallied up my expenditures in Quicken I realized I need to make a change. I joined a site Hot Coupon World . Its a site with a wealth of information from thousands of members on how to save money with coupons and rebates from all the local and national stores of all kinds. Its a bit overwhelming when you first start, there is a lot of reading.

I suggest to sign up, it's free, and then pick one store you shop at. Read the current weekly ad preview. Don't get discouraged, there is a lot of lingo that may not make since at first but once you start reading the forum it will come quickly. I would also encourage you to subscribe to or pick up a Sunday newspaper.

It will take a few weeks to get the hang of it, to accumulate coupons, but it will come. The joy comes when you go to the store you and have stretched teh value of your dollar.
